The Institute of Waste Management and Contaminated Site Treatment of Technische Universität Dresden organized on March 4-6, 2008 an international conference on redevelopment of Manufactured Gas Plants – MGP 2008 Gasworks Europe. During the two-day event about 40 lectures were given on clean-up of contaminated sites worldwide, accompanied by the presentation of 26 posters.
Additionally, international renowned companies presented the actual state-of-the-art in remediation during a parallel exhibition. The successful organization was possible with the help of the much appreciated financial support from our sponsors.

The MGP 2008 conference was closed with the visit of Panometer Dresden, an excellent example of inspired and innovative use of a former gasholder. Using high-tech multimedia tools within the renovated building, the architect has generated a 360° perspective of Dresden from year 1756.
One can assume that tar oil contaminated sites will be of special concern also in the future and further research in this field is expected. The next symposium and exhibition on redevelopment of Manufactured Gas Plant Sites will convene in Mystic Connecticut, USA in September 23-25, 2008 (www.mgp2008.instep.ws).
This will be followed in spring 2010 by another MGP conference organized by our institute in Prague, Czech Republic, which will focus on Central and East-European situation (more info starting with Summer 2008).
The papers presented at MGP 2008 conference are available upon request in printed version (proceedings book - 30 EURO plus shipping) and electronic version (PDF file on CD - 20 EURO plus shipping). Please contact our conference office for more details.
